CU60303 • Care & Unite Programme

Why ‘60303’?

60‘ refers to CUHK’s 60th anniversary and ‘303 ‘ is a homophonic pun of heart to heart in Chinese.

Objectives

To amplify CUHK’s social impact via service to the community
To realize the 60th anniversary vision of ‘where great minds shine’ by connecting with and caring for the community.

By Whom?

All members of the University, including students, staff, alumni and their family and friends are welcome to join the programme.

How?

The ‘CU60303 • Care & Unite’ programme is a community service programme which aims to encourage CUHK members to pledge and perform 60 hours of social service and undertake volunteering service or other community engagement activities, either individually or as part of a group, to make the 60th anniversary memorable.

We are excited to partner up with Social Career, a local non-profit organization linking NGOs with volunteers, to extend the range of volunteering and community engagement activities we can offer to CUHK fellows.

For CUHK Staff

At CUHK, we believe in the importance of serving the local community and encourage our staff members to participate in volunteering services. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we are proud of our longstanding commitment to the community and hope to continue fulfilling social responsibility through the efforts of our staff to realize the vision of ‘Where Great Minds Shine’.

Time Release for Community Service

The University has formalized the provision of time release for community service. Starting 1 November 2024, full-time staff members will be eligible for up to 15 hours of time release per academic year (from 1 August in a year to the following 31 July) to engage in community service activities.

This decision follows a successful initial run during CUHK 60th anniversary. The formalization of time release provision underscores CUHK’s commitment to University Social Responsibility (USR).

Administrative Guidelines:
To ensure smooth implementation, the provision is subject to specific administrative guidelines. These guidelines are now included in the online Staff Handbook under the section “Leave to Perform Public Duties and Time Release for Community Service.”

For more details, please refer to the Human Resources Circular No. 04/2024 and in the Staff Handbook chapter retitled as “Leave to Perform Public Duties and Time Release for Community Service”.

We encourage all eligible staff to sign the CU60303 community service pledge, take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to our community and uphold the spirit of service that defines CUHK.
